The Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport South Africa (CILTSA) will place the future of transport, logistics and supply chain management firmly in the spotlight when it hosts the CILT Namibia, South Africa and Zimbabwe Regional Conference at Automechanika Johannesburg on 28 and 29 October 2026.
As the South African branch of the internationally recognised Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport, CILTSA plays a key role in promoting professional standards, industry development and skills advancement across the transport and logistics sectors. Through education, advocacy and collaboration, the organisation supports efforts to create more efficient, sustainable and integrated transport systems throughout Southern Africa.
Hosted at Gallagher Convention Centre in Midrand, the conference will be presented under the theme Driving Innovation: Bridging Borders for an African Future. The event will bring together government officials, industry leaders, academics and logistics professionals to discuss practical strategies for strengthening regional connectivity, improving trade efficiency and building more resilient supply chains.
Focus on Cross-Border Trade and Connectivity
According to CILTSA President Elvin Harris, the conference programme is designed to explore actionable solutions that can improve the movement of goods and people across Southern Africa.
Discussions will examine key topics including infrastructure investment, policy alignment, technology adoption and workforce development, all of which play a critical role in strengthening regional transport networks.
A major focus area will be cross-border transport and trade facilitation. Delegates will hear from Lwazi Mboyi, CEO of the Cross-Border Road Transport Agency (C-BRTA), who will discuss opportunities and challenges related to cross-border road transport in Africa. Aneeqah Meyer of Ernst & Young will provide insights into the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) and its potential impact on regional commerce and economic integration.
Addressing Africa's Logistics Challenges
The conference will also feature panel discussions focused on some of the most pressing challenges facing the logistics and transport sectors.
Experts will explore ways to improve the efficiency of transport corridors, reduce border delays and address non-tariff barriers that affect trade flows across the region. Discussions will additionally cover strategic road and rail infrastructure, corridor development initiatives and the role of inland logistics hubs in supporting industrial growth.
Other sessions will examine the harmonisation of customs procedures, vehicle standards, operating permits and professional qualifications, all aimed at creating more seamless movement of freight and passengers between neighbouring countries.
Preparing for the Future of Transport
The second day of the conference will focus on operational excellence, technology adoption and future-readiness within the sector.
Delegates can expect presentations from respected regional leaders, including CILT Zimbabwe President Dr Tapiwa Mujakachi. The programme will also feature a keynote presentation by Francois Vorster, Chief Disruptor at IMS, who will explore the growing role of generative engine optimisation and emerging technologies within modern supply chains and transport operations.
Safety, security, education and skills development will feature prominently throughout the event, with contributions from representatives of the Road Freight Association (RFA), Transport Education Training Authority (TETA), Automotive Industry Development Centre (AIDC), academic institutions and private-sector organisations.
A Platform for Collaboration and Growth
In addition to the conference sessions, attendees will have the opportunity to explore the Automechanika Johannesburg exhibition, connect with exhibitors and engage with fellow industry professionals.
The combination of conference content and exhibition activities is expected to create a valuable platform for knowledge sharing, networking and collaboration. As regional trade and transport networks continue to evolve, CILTSA believes that innovation, partnership and skills development will be essential to unlocking future growth opportunities across Southern Africa.
