As Automechanika drew to a close and exhibitors began dismantling their displays, it seemed the event had reached its natural conclusion. Meetings had been held, photographs taken, and products explored. All that remained was to load a beloved exhibition vehicle, a classic Jaguar S-Type, onto its transport for the journey home.
That routine task quickly became more complicated when it was discovered that the driver's door had been left slightly open, enough to keep the interior light illuminated throughout the event. Unfortunately, the battery had not been disconnected when the car was parked. After several attempts to start the vehicle, the battery was completely drained, leaving only silence where there should have been the familiar sound of the engine turning over.
Faced with the prospect of moving a nearly two-tonne vehicle without power, a solution seemed uncertain. Fortunately, nearby exhibitor Danako still had vehicles on its stand. A quick visit led to meeting Darius Shams, who was still onsite as exhibitors packed up.
Rather than relying on another vehicle for a jump start, Shams introduced a more convenient solution he had discovered during the event from neighbouring exhibitor Russon. Specialising in high-performance jump starters and outdoor utility products, Russon offers equipment designed for exactly these types of unexpected situations.
Shams happened to have one of Russon's EMU jump starters available and generously offered it to assist. Once connected to the Jaguar's battery terminals, the compact device delivered immediate results. With a single turn of the key, the classic Jaguar sprang back to life, saving both time and considerable effort.
The experience served as a practical demonstration of the importance of portable emergency equipment, particularly for enthusiasts, workshops and anyone responsible for maintaining older vehicles. What could have become a stressful and labour-intensive ordeal was resolved in minutes.
