GUD shows engine-care solutions at Automechanika Johannesburg
Automechanika Johannesburg once again provided a platform for South African automotive component manufacturer GUD Holdings to showcase its locally produced products and strengthen awareness of the role that regular vehicle maintenance plays in reliability, performance and longevity.
For GUD Holdings, the 2026 exhibition marked its nineteenth appearance at the event, underlining the company's long-standing commitment to the South African automotive aftermarket. Established in 1949, GUD has grown into one of the country's best-known automotive component manufacturers, producing a wide range of products that support vehicle maintenance and engine performance.
The company's product portfolio includes brake pads as well as air, cabin, fuel and oil filters designed to help keep vehicles operating efficiently while protecting critical engine and vehicle systems.
Designed for specific vehicle applications
One of GUD's key strengths lies in its ability to develop filters tailored to the requirements of specific vehicle manufacturers and models. The company works closely with a variety of automotive brands, including Toyota, Mazda, Ford, MAN Trucks, Mercedes-Benz and Hyundai, to ensure products meet the technical specifications required for different applications.
By manufacturing model-specific filtration solutions, the company aims to support vehicle reliability while maintaining the performance standards expected by automotive manufacturers and motorists alike.
Sales representative Kabelo Motswe identified GUD Filters as one of the company's flagship brands on display at Automechanika. Among the products showcased were cabin air filters, which help remove dust and contaminants from the air entering a vehicle's interior through its air-conditioning and ventilation system.
Supporting local vehicle production
Motswe also highlighted the FK111 filter, a product developed for the 2021 Toyota Corolla Cross manufactured at Toyota South Africa's Prospecton facility in Durban.
The filter serves as an example of the company's ability to produce components that meet the specific requirements of locally assembled vehicles. According to GUD, developing vehicle-specific solutions remains an important part of supporting South Africa's automotive manufacturing and aftermarket sectors.
Through ongoing collaboration with vehicle manufacturers, the company aims to ensure motorists have access to quality replacement components designed for local operating conditions.
A brand built on growth
According to Motswe, the company's name reflects its long-term philosophy and focus on continuous development.
“GUD means Growing Up Daily. It was all about the product that they wanted to invent that could grow and develop daily within the automotive industry,” he explained.
Today, GUD's head office remains in Durban, while its primary distribution centre is located in Isando, Kempton Park, providing support to customers throughout South Africa and neighbouring markets.
From local manufacturer to global exporter
Over the years, GUD Holdings has evolved from a locally focused manufacturer into one of South Africa's leading automotive filter brands. The company has participated in Automechanika Johannesburg since 2007 and has steadily expanded its footprint both locally and internationally.
GUD currently employs more than 1 500 people and operates manufacturing facilities in Durban, Pietermaritzburg and Zimbabwe. Its distribution network includes centres in Johannesburg, Cape Town and Durban.
The company's products are exported to customers across five continents, highlighting the growing international demand for South African-manufactured automotive components.
By combining local manufacturing expertise with international reach, GUD continues to play an important role in supplying filtration and automotive maintenance products to both domestic and global markets while promoting the importance of vehicle care and preventative maintenance.
