Lianhe Sowell International Group Ltd has delivered an automated precision vision spray painting robot to Mercedes-Benz Asia's largest body and paint centre in Beijing, according to a statement released by the company earlier in July.
The technology is a first of its kind from the Chinese provider of industrial machine vision products.
The delivery is part of the company's expansion into automated spray-painting technology and automotive aftermarket services.
The robot includes Lianhe Sowell's high-precision 3D vision recognition system and AI dynamic path planning technology. The system scans and identifies vehicle body contours in real time, optimising spray paths and paint consumption with millimetre-level precision.
Compared to traditional manual spraying, the system reduces paint consumption by over 20%, improves spraying efficiency by over 30%, and lowers volatile organic compound (VOC) emissions. These changes help the Mercedes-Benz facility reduce costs and environmental impact.
Mercedes-Benz Asia's largest body and paint centre is located in Beijing and has an annual service capacity exceeding 10,000 high-end vehicles. Lianhe Sowell has become a solutions provider for the facility's automation upgrade.
The robotic system will be deployed in the luxury vehicle repair line to help vehicles achieve factory-level paint restoration standards.
This delivery represents another step in Lianhe Sowell's automotive aftermarket sector expansion. The company plans to focus on remote operation and maintenance diagnostics, and spray-painting big data analysis to enhance body and paint processes.
Lianhe Sowell will collaborate with the Mercedes-Benz body and paint centre to develop new standards and concepts for automotive precision vision automated spray-painting robots.
