Toyota is preparing for a busy time in 2025 and 2026 with launches that show its ability to blend future-focused technology with its traditional strengths.
In South Africa, the company and its luxury arm Lexus will introduce three battery-electric vehicles next year. Among them is the Toyota bZ4X, already on display at naamsa’s Autoweek.
The model is set to feature upgrades such as more efficient eAxle technology, improved suspension and enhanced quietness in the cabin. Buyers will be able to choose between two battery sizes. The larger 73.1kWh version offers a range of up to 573km, around 70km more than the current model, and can recharge in about 30 minutes under optimal conditions. Toyota says this ensures practical performance for everyday driving.
At the same time, Toyota is developing a compact Land Cruiser, often referred to as the “baby Land Cruiser” or “mini-FJ Cruiser”. Japanese automotive site Creative Trend has reported the SUV may debut at the Japan Mobility Show in 2025, with sales in Japan beginning in spring 2026.

The design is inspired by the Compact Cruiser EV concept first shown in 2021, with leaked images revealing a rugged, boxy style and a tailgate-mounted spare wheel. It is believed to use the IMV-0 platform, shared with the HiLux and Fortuner, and the first version is expected to feature a 2.7-litre petrol engine.
With the bZ4X showcasing Toyota’s electric progress and the compact Land Cruiser reviving a legend, the company is demonstrating that it is ready to satisfy both modern and traditional motoring expectations.
