Rhino Linings, a South African company renowned for its durable protective coatings for vehicle load beds and cargo areas, made its first-ever appearance at Automechanika 2026, held at Gallagher Estate in Midrand during the final week of October.
Over the years, Rhino Linings has built a strong reputation for providing a tough 'second skin' for vehicle load compartments, ranging from light commercial bakkies to heavy-duty trucks and panel vans. Its spray-on protective coatings are designed to extend the lifespan of vehicles by protecting surfaces from abrasion, corrosion and moisture damage.
Founded in 1983 by Lewis Russell, Rhino Linings pioneered the spray-on truck bedliner industry in South Africa. The company’s name draws inspiration from the rugged and resilient skin of the rhinoceros, reflecting the durability and protective qualities of its products.
Today, Rhino Linings operates as a chemical manufacturing business, developing and supplying elastomer coating solutions through a network of franchise partners and automotive brands, including Toyota, Ford and Volkswagen. These coatings create waterproof barriers that help preserve vehicles operating in demanding conditions.
With more than four decades of industry experience, the company has expanded beyond South Africa and now has a presence across North and South America, Europe and Asia. Africa remains a key growth market, with Rhino Linings currently operating in seven sub-Saharan African countries.
According to Michael Broom, Rhino Linings' Commercial Development and Franchise Manager, exhibiting at Automechanika provided an excellent opportunity to strengthen the company’s African expansion strategy. He noted that the event generated several promising discussions that could lead to future business growth and an expanded regional footprint.
Rhino Linings offers opportunities for entrepreneurs looking to enter the automotive sector through a structured franchise model that combines hands-on commitment with comprehensive training and support. Existing automotive and industrial businesses can also integrate Rhino Linings products and services into their current operations.
The company places significant emphasis on employee wellbeing. Rhino Linings supports staff through initiatives that include sports programmes, educational assistance for employees' children and the creation of positive working environments. Broom believes meaningful impact begins within the company itself, focusing first on supporting the people closest to the business.
Looking ahead, Rhino Holdings plans to further expand its African operations while exploring growth opportunities in the flooring sector.
