As vehicles become increasingly advanced, the expertise of trained automotive professionals has never been more important. In South Africa, where many people depend on their cars for work and family life, consistent servicing and maintenance form the foundation of road safety and reliability.
The National Automobile Dealers’ Association (NADA) is encouraging a renewed appreciation for professional servicing, addressing myths that continue to circulate among motorists. Their message underscores the crucial role that workshop professionals play in keeping the country’s vehicles safe and dependable.
One misconception is that servicing becomes optional once the warranty expires. In truth, it is at this point that skilled technicians become even more valuable. “Keeping up with maintenance protects both your vehicle and your family’s safety and is far cheaper than dealing with major issues down the line as the vehicle ages,” says NADA. Workshops that follow manufacturer specifications and use quality parts provide long-term protection for both the vehicle and its occupants.
Another persistent myth is that all service providers are the same. Modern vehicles require sophisticated diagnostics and specialist knowledge. “Skilled and trained technicians help maintain your vehicle’s performance and protect your investment, keeping you safely on the road for longer,” NADA notes. This highlights the importance of ongoing technician training and access to up-to-date diagnostic equipment.

Regular servicing also allows professionals to detect potential faults before they escalate. Even a single missed service can lead to component wear, reduced safety and warranty complications.
Tyres are another area where expert attention makes a difference. Many drivers are unaware that tyres can age and lose grip even if the tread appears acceptable. NADA reminds the industry that proactive tyre checks save lives and reduce liability risks for workshops.
Ignoring dashboard warnings can also create major safety concerns. Professional technicians are trained to interpret these alerts correctly and take timely action. “Dashboard warnings indicate critical concerns. Prompt attention from trained technicians protects you, your passengers and your vehicle,” the association emphasises.
NADA adds, “Modern vehicles are sophisticated machines and keeping them safe and reliable requires the right knowledge and experience.” Through their member networks, trained technicians continue to play a vital role in safeguarding both motorists and the vehicles they rely on every day.
