Innovation, digitalisation and sustainability took centre stage at Automechanika Frankfurt 2026 as a 17-member international jury recognised the most groundbreaking aftermarket products through the prestigious Automechanika Innovation Awards.
The awards showcased the rapid transformation of the automotive aftermarket, with winning technologies spanning artificial intelligence, workshop automation, electric mobility, remanufacturing, fleet efficiency and environmentally responsible solutions. Collectively, the winners reflected an industry increasingly focused on reducing waste, improving productivity and making better use of data.
One of the strongest trends among this year's winners was the growing role of artificial intelligence within workshop operations. Robert Bosch GmbH secured the AI Solutions & Digitalisation Award for its ESI[tronic] AI Assistant. The platform combines Bosch's automotive expertise with AI-powered search functionality, providing technicians with access to diagnostic procedures, troubleshooting guidance and technical information through a chatbot-style interface.
By significantly reducing the time required to identify faults and access technical documentation, the solution has the potential to improve workshop productivity while supporting faster and more accurate repairs.
Automation also featured prominently among the award-winning innovations. MAHA received recognition in the Smart Workshop & Service Solutions category for its MAIA autonomous inspection robot. The system uses artificial intelligence to perform multiple vehicle inspections in a single process, including body damage detection, cost estimation, tyre inspection, headlight measurement and wheel alignment assessment without requiring additional workshop infrastructure.
The collision repair sector was represented by CARTEC Autotechnik Fuchs, which won the Body & Paint category for its SmartBoxBlower Auto Pilot. Designed to automate bumper paint preparation, the system uses patented OscilloMotion technology to deliver consistent results across complex surfaces while reducing dependence on highly specialised operator skills.
Sustainability emerged as a recurring theme across several categories. Borg Automotive earned the Sustainable Drive Solutions Award for its Remanufactured eDrive Motor, an independent aftermarket solution that provides electric vehicle owners with access to remanufactured drive units. As electric vehicle adoption continues to grow, the development offers a cost-effective and environmentally responsible repair alternative.
The Circular Economy & Remanufacturing category further reinforced this trend. rema.germany was recognised for its Digital Return & Core Intelligence System (RMS), which digitises the inspection, handling and assessment of used components destined for remanufacturing. Through centralised processing, guided inspections and multilingual reporting, the platform helps improve component recovery rates while reducing unnecessary transport and administrative disputes.
The event's Green Award was presented to Autocraft Solutions Group for its REVIVE® EV Battery Workshops programme. The initiative focuses on repairing and remanufacturing high-voltage electric vehicle batteries, allowing battery packs to be restored and returned to service rather than replaced entirely. The approach offers substantial cost savings while extending battery life and reducing waste.
Digital connectivity also featured prominently among the winners. Knorr-Bremse secured the Data, Connectivity & Cybersecurity Award for its WESP CV platform, which creates a secure workshop data and analytics environment for commercial vehicle operators. By connecting existing workshop systems, standardising operational information and benchmarking performance, the platform enables more informed decision-making while maintaining high cybersecurity standards.
Commercial vehicle operators also benefited from innovation in the fleet sector. SKF received the Commercial Vehicle & Fleet Innovation Award for its low-friction wheel bearing technology. Designed to reduce fuel consumption without affecting durability, the solution helps fleet operators lower operating costs and reduce CO₂ emissions.
In the Advanced Parts & Vehicle Technologies category, MEYLE was recognised for its HD brake disc, which incorporates enhanced wear and corrosion protection. The design extends component lifespan while reducing brake-related emissions, demonstrating that conventional vehicle components can still contribute to sustainability goals.
Outside the workshop environment, sustainability continued to influence vehicle care and accessories. POLYTOP won the Car Care, Cleaning & Detailing category for its BLUE LINE® Series, which enables vehicle washing without the use of drinking water in facilities equipped with biological wastewater treatment systems.
The Smart Accessories & Lifestyle Award was presented to GEN-Y Hitch for its PHANTOM-XT adjustable towing hitch. Incorporating TORSION-FLEX technology, the system absorbs road shock and vibration to protect trailers and cargo while improving towing comfort and stability.
Overall, the 2026 Automechanika Innovation Award winners highlight an aftermarket industry increasingly shaped by artificial intelligence, automation, remanufacturing and sustainability. The technologies recognised this year demonstrate how businesses are preparing for the next generation of mobility through smarter, more efficient and environmentally responsible solutions.
