AkzoNobel and Axalta Coating Systems have unveiled Axanzo as the future name of their combined organisation, marking another milestone in the companies' planned merger and signalling the creation of a major new force in the global coatings industry.
The merger, announced in November 2025, will bring together two of the sector's most established businesses, creating a coatings company with expanded international reach, increased scale and enhanced resources to support innovation and long-term growth. Following completion of the transaction, the merged company is expected to trade under the ticker symbol AXZ on both the New York Stock Exchange and Euronext Amsterdam.
Greg Poux-Guillaume, CEO of AkzoNobel and future Chief Executive Officer of the combined company, said the new identity reflects the ambitions of the merger.
"We're excited to announce the new name for our combined company. Axanzo signals a bold new start for a company which will be stronger in every way. It's a launchpad for going further and faster than we ever could alone, embodying the pace and power to innovate, the strength to deliver and the excellence to succeed," he said.
Chris Villavarayan, CEO of Axalta and future Deputy CEO of Axanzo, said the name captures the joint vision of both organisations.
"Axanzo will continuously reset the standard of what coatings can do. The new name perfectly captures our shared ambition to push boundaries, honouring our heritage and offering an exciting glimpse of what's to come," he said.
The new corporate identity combines elements of both companies' histories while representing a fresh chapter for the coatings sector. Once the merger is finalised, Axanzo will oversee a portfolio of approximately 100 recognised brands across decorative paints, industrial coatings and automotive refinishing products. The combined business is expected to serve customers in more than 160 countries.
Poux-Guillaume said the new organisation will place a strong emphasis on performance, profitability and sustainability.
"Axanzo will focus on delivering uncompromising performance to sharpen our competitive edge, while establishing a profitable and sustainable path forward as a world leader in coatings. By forging our expertise, the best of each of us will become the standard for all of us," he said.
Until all regulatory approvals and customary closing conditions are satisfied, AkzoNobel and Axalta will continue operating as separate businesses. The transaction is currently expected to close in early 2027.
Customers, suppliers and business partners will continue to engage with existing contacts, brands and operational structures throughout the transition period.
The merger combines two companies with extensive experience in the coatings industry. AkzoNobel, founded in 1792, owns globally recognised brands including Dulux, International, Sikkens and Interpon, and operates in more than 150 countries. Axalta contributes more than 150 years of coatings expertise, serving over 100 000 customers across more than 140 countries with solutions for automotive, industrial and commercial applications.
By combining their respective strengths, the two companies aim to accelerate innovation, strengthen customer offerings and expand their influence across the global paints and coatings market.
