SVI Engineering, South Africa’s leading manufacturer of armoured products, has unveiled a dramatic series of Transformer-inspired videos across its social media platforms. These clips highlight how the company’s extensive military and security expertise is channelled into world-class civilian protection.
“Unlike most companies in the civilian vehicle armouring space, SVI boasts a strong background in the military and security industries. Our vast engineering experience in these gruelling fields both informs and inspires our approach in the civilian vehicle market, leading to world-class ballistic protection for private customers, too,” explains SVI Business Development Director, Nicol Louw.
“In short, the engineering DNA from our military and security products, which are proven to withstand the toughest of tests, in the battlefield and beyond, filters down to our armoured civilian vehicles. And that’s exactly what these social media video clips highlight. We call it the ‘Ultimate Technology Transfer’,” he adds.
Flagship Protection: Max 9 and Ranger Raptor
The SVI Max 9 stands as the company’s flagship bespoke military solution. This armoured personnel carrier (APC) delivers STANAG 1 ballistic protection as standard, with upgrade options available. Its Cummins-sourced 6.7-litre turbodiesel engine produces 210 kW and 970 Nm, while the robust 4x4 system ensures go-anywhere capability.
Meanwhile, the B6-armoured Ford Ranger Raptor represents the pinnacle of civilian protection. Approved by Ford South Africa, this package includes a GVM upgrade and retains FOX live-valve shocks, ensuring off-road prowess despite the 650 kg of added armour. Its turbocharged 3-litre V6 engine delivers 292 kW and 583 Nm.

Versatility in Action: Max 3 and AK47 Golf GTI
The Max 3 APC is widely used in the mining sector to combat illegal miners armed with AK47s. Compact yet powerful, it offers agility unmatched by traditional APCs. Equally innovative, the AK47 Golf 8 GTI provides rapid-response capability. Its B4+ armouring kit protects against rifles up to 7.62x39 mm, including the AK47, while retaining hot-hatch speed and manoeuvrability.

Multi-Role Protection: Max Swat and Armoured V-Class
The Max Swat, capable of carrying 12 crew members, is already a favourite in South Africa’s security industry. With EN1063 BR6 protection and luxury-style sport seats, it blends battlefield toughness with comfort.
Similarly, the Mercedes-Benz V-Class armoured by SVI offers B4-level protection against handguns up to .44 Magnum. Fully approved by Mercedes-Benz South Africa, it provides overlaps around the windscreen and windows, ensuring enhanced safety for up to seven passengers.
