Range Rover has introduced an innovative painting technique that transforms its luxury vehicles into works of automotive art. The new mirror-finish process creates an extraordinarily smooth, reflective surface that rivals the lustre of polished gemstones and patent leather.
Announced from Pretoria this week, the breakthrough finish is now standard on all bespoke gloss paint orders for Range Rover and Range Rover Sport models. The development comes on the heels of the marque's most successful year for personalisation services, which included limited editions such as the Fifty-Five Edition and the Monterey Bay-inspired Asilomar.
Artisan Craftsmanship Meets Advanced Technology
The revolutionary finish represents the brand's most sophisticated paint application to date. Each vehicle undergoes a meticulous three-day process entirely by hand, with dedicated craftspeople overseeing individual commissions from start to finish.
The technique employs a thicker topcoat lacquer combined with extended polishing stages, achieving a 25 per cent improvement in surface smoothness compared to previous methods. Specialists carefully remove approximately 15 microns of lacquer through precision hand-polishing, creating the characteristic depth and brilliance.
Quality control is maintained using wave scan technology, which identifies even microscopic imperfections in the paintwork. This ensures every vehicle meets the exacting standards befitting the Range Rover name.

Expanded Capabilities
Last year's expansion of the Bespoke facilities introduced purpose-built spray booths specifically designed for this refined finishing technique. These advanced facilities will soon accommodate increasingly complex colour formulations, broadening the creative possibilities for discerning clients.
Martin Limpert, Global Managing Director for Range Rover, emphasised that the mirror finish exemplifies the brand's commitment to exceptional craftsmanship and individuality, allowing customers to express their personal vision with unprecedented clarity.
The bespoke service remains available at Range Rover Houses globally, with Antwerp's newly opened Commissioning Studio joining the network. Clients can personalise virtually every aspect of their vehicle, from bespoke embroidery to custom-matched exterior colours, ensuring each Range Rover is truly unique.
