
On 17 November, the Automotive Industry Development Centre (AIDC) hosted the launch of a training programme aimed at unemployed youth and SMMEs, at the Chamdor Automotive Hub in Krugersdorp.The Gauteng MEC for Economic Development, Tasneem Motara, led the launch of the training programme.The training programme, which is the result of a partnership between the AIDC and Tiger Wheel & Tyre (a subsidiary of TiAuto Investments), will train candidates in fitting, stripping, balancing and wheel alignment. The project will target the 200 unemployed youth and SMMEs in the tyre sector within Mogale City and surrounding areas. The trainees will be put on a database for possible future employment opportunities.In addition, at the same event, SMMEs based at the hub received tools for their respective automotive trades. The tools were secured through the collaborative effort of the AIDC and the Gauteng Enterprise Propeller (GEP) as part of the ongoing interventions to support SMMEs.The Chamdor Automotive hub was officially opened on 27 October 2022.
