Stellantis South Africa partners with Social Coding to expand digital learning
Stellantis South Africa has entered into a new partnership with Social Coding South Africa aimed at widening access to coding, robotics and digital skills in communities where technology remains scarce.
The initiative is part of Stellantis Philanthropy, the Group’s global programme dedicated to education, youth development and creating opportunities for young people. At the centre of the collaboration is a mobile computer lab designed to bring practical digital learning directly to schools and community spaces.
The programme will reach Grade 8 and 9 learners, giving them handson experience in coding, robotics, artificial intelligence and other Fourth Industrial Revolution technologies. Teachers will be trained to integrate digital tools into their classrooms, while young facilitators will gain certification and paid work experience to help expand the initiative.
Learners will also have the chance to compete in national and international robotics competitions, ensuring that skills development continues to grow within the community. By equipping teachers and training local facilitators, the project is designed to leave lasting capability even after the mobile lab moves on.
Sizwekazi Mdingi, Head of Communications and CSR for South Africa and SubSaharan Africa at Stellantis, said that access to skills and opportunities is essential for longterm progress. She explained that the partnership reflects Stellantis Philanthropy’s commitment to helping young people build their future and strengthen their communities.
Thembiso Magajana, founder of Social Coding South Africa, added that the collaboration helps close the gap between local talent and the opportunities that are often out of reach. She emphasised that with Stellantis’s support, the mobile lab can show learners and teachers that coding, robotics and artificial intelligence are skills within their grasp.
The initiative is expected to benefit learners, teachers and facilitators across multiple communities, ensuring that digital literacy becomes a foundation for future growth. By focusing on education and youth development, Stellantis Philanthropy aims to empower individuals to drive lasting change and contribute to the digital economy.
The partnership highlights the importance of sustained investment in skills development, ensuring that communities are not left behind as technology continues to shape the future.
