Standox, one of Axalta’s premium Refinish brands, launched its innovative Xtreme System in South Africa at the beginning of July.
The Xtreme System sets new standards for fast and energy-efficient car refinishing thanks to its proven track record of helping bodyshops to save energy and to increase throughput.
“The strength of the Xtreme System from Standox lies in the fact it provides optimal balance between energy savings and throughput. At low temperatures, energy consumption can be reduced by up to 70%. On the other hand, bodyshops can use the Xtreme System to reduce the time required for a standard repair – including flash-off and drying times – to around one hour, enabling higher throughput and making small repairs more profitable,” Paul Retief, Training and Technical Specialist for South Africa, says.
The Standox Xtreme System comprises Express Prep Wipes U3000, VOC-Xtreme Wet-on-Wet Filler U7650, VOC-Xtreme Plastic Additive U7660, VOC-Xtreme Filler U7600, Standoblue Basecoat and VOC-Xtreme-Plus Clear K9600. It has exceptionally short process times, is very flexible in use and extremely economical in terms of energy consumption. When used as a system, refinishers achieve a first-class coating on new parts in just 36 minutes. This extremely fast process time is not possible with any other system solution. Spray booth time is reduced by 25%, so bodyshops can significantly increase their throughput.
Extremely short drying times
The unique advantage of the Xtreme System is its fast-drying times at 60°C, 40°C and even 20°C. Refinishers can make the choice about how to use it, depending on how busy the bodyshop is. They can either rely on the Xtreme System for speed, and short spray booth throughput, or on reduced energy consumption when there are fewer vehicles waiting to be repaired. Drying at 20°C enables energy savings of up to 70%, but the beauty of the Xtreme System means that even at higher temperatures, bodyshops can save 25% on energy costs.
A fast system with low energy consumption
The entire Standox Xtreme System, using patented Axalta technology, can be dried at 40°C or even 20°C, making it very energy efficient. The short drying times also allow for bodyshops to carry out 1 Day Repair service, the Standox process to repair a vehicle and return it to the customer on the same day.

Five-minute filler drying time
The VOC-Xtreme Wet-on-Wet Filler U7650 sets new standards for coating new parts, not only with short flash-off times, but also with outstanding holdout on vertical surfaces and a particularly good topcoat appearance. To achieve the maximum throughput, the filler can be overcoated or lightly sanded after only five minutes. The filler is available in white, grey and black. Like all other products in the Xtreme System, the filler can be easily and reliably applied and it produces high-gloss results after clearcoat application. In combination with the VOC Xtreme Plastic Additive U7660, the filler is also ideal for the direct finishing of plastic car parts such as bumpers. For all other repairs, the fast-drying sanding filler Standocryl VOC-Xtreme Filler U7600 fits well in the Xtreme system.
Shining bright
The Standocryl VOC-Xtreme-Plus Clear K9600 excels at low drying temperatures, making bodyshops even more efficient; it dries within 10 to 15 minutes at 40°C, and at 20°C, in 30 to 55 minutes. Once cooled after forced drying, it can be polished immediately. The clear has the option to be applied in one step or in two spray coats. Thanks to its good filling power, it easily covers smaller specks and dust particles, which helps to reduce polishing time. VOC-Xtreme-Plus Clear K9600 also has very good overspray absorption so is perfect for easy blending.
An additional benefit is that Standoblue Basecoat no longer needs to be activated with VOC-Xtreme-Plus Clear K9600, which simplifies the process for the refinisher.
