During a hybrid online/in-person meet-and-greet on 27 February, outgoing SAMBRA (South African Motor Body Repairers Association) National Director, Jacques Viljoen, was bid farewell while his successor, Marcia Modiba, was welcomed to the organisation.
Viljoen said it was important in the light of all the challenges the industry faces to have the right leadership. “When Marcia was identified by the RMI (Retail Motor Industry Organisation) to take over the reins, I gave her my wholehearted support. Her reputation and CV speak are distinct, and she is well-decorated within the broader RMI. In a male dominated industry, it is a welcome change to have a female at the helm,” said Viljoen.
Viljoen also stressed that he was not leaving SAMBRA owing to unhappiness with the organisation but only because at this stage of his life his new endeavour would be most beneficial for the development of his career as well as his family-life. He will be joining MISA (Motor Industry Staff Association).Modiba has been with RMI for the past 13 years, most recently in a national position for MIWA (Motor Industry Workshop Association) as Operations Co-Ordinator under the directorship of Pieter Niemand.
“SAMBRA is a new environment for me, but I am looking forward to the challenge. I will be filling big shoes and hope to build on the foundations Jacques has laid. Most importantly, I will be looking to grow the association,” said Modiba who has been working alongside Viljoen, gradually taking over from him since the start of February.
She concluded with an invitation to her new team and all members of SAMBRA to approach her for assistance with all issues and queries.
